Hello!

MY NAME IS LOIS

I am a Lincoln based artist-maker known for finely pleated Arashi Shibori textile work. My creative practice centres on textile experience and as a teacher of textile decoration techniques. I finely craft natural fibres and Biopolymer Microfibres to explore sculptural forms which emerge from manipulated textiles.

The ancient tradition of Arashi (storm) Shibori is the Japanese name given to the resist-dye process of wrapping cloth around a pole, compressing it into folds, and dyeing it. The resulting patterns suggest rain driven by a strong wind.

In these contemporary pieces, inspiration has been drawn from nature and the natural landscapes to create movement and texture, inherent in Arashi, to become part of the finished surface and reflect the sculptural qualities of my work.
